Still struggling with glare, halos, starbursts or blurred vision after laser eye surgery or a premium lens implant? You are not alone, and you are not out of options. Amdavad Eye Laser Hospital (AELH), a NABH-accredited tertiary eye care centre in Ahmedabad, offers a second-chance pathway: a detailed evaluation and custom enhancement for unhappy refractive surgery patients, using the SCHWIND AMARIS 1050RS excimer laser and advanced topography and wavefront diagnostics.
For patients who had refractive surgery or premium lens surgery elsewhere and are still unhappy, there is now a second-chance pathway in Ahmedabad. Common complaints include:
Glare, halos and starbursts after Multifocal IOL (multifocal or trifocal lens implant)
Residual blur or leftover power after SMILE, SMILE Pro or SILK
Night vision problems after Contoura Vision or InnovEyes
At Amdavad Eye Laser Hospital, a leading eye hospital in Ahmedabad with 30+ years of experience, we specialize in evaluation and custom enhancement for unhappy refractive patients using the world’s fastest excimer laser platform and its advanced diagnostic software suite. If you are still considering vision correction, see our services.
Even with excellent technology, 1-3% of patients experience visual quality issues after laser vision correction or lens surgery. The cause depends on the procedure:
After Multifocal IOL: Halos, glare, waxy vision and loss of contrast, especially at night. These are often due to residual astigmatism, higher order aberrations or lens decentration.
After SMILE, SMILE Pro, SILK, Contoura or InnovEyes: Residual power, irregular astigmatism, higher order aberrations, epithelial remodeling, or a small optical zone causing night glare.
Standard glasses, or a re-touch with the same treatment profile, often do not fix quality of vision. What is needed is topography and wavefront guided customization.
We use the SCHWIND AMARIS 1050RS, currently the fastest excimer laser available and the first of its kind in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Goa. Speed matters for safety. At 1050 pulses per second with 1050Hz 7-dimensional eye tracking, 1 Dioptre is treated in 1.3 seconds. That means less corneal dehydration, less fixation fatigue, and a laser that tracks even micro eye movements.
More importantly, it comes with a therapeutic toolkit not available on most platforms:
A no-touch, trans-epithelial approach that first maps and removes the epithelium based on its own thickness profile, then treats the underlying irregularity. It is very useful for irregular corneas after previous lenticule surgery (SMILE / SILK) and for preparing eyes for fine-tuning after Multifocal IOL.
Originally described for keratoconus scars, TREK allows highly localized, shape-and-location customized PTK (phototherapeutic keratectomy). For post-SMILE / SILK scars or paracentral irregularities, we can ablate exactly 3.5mm x 5mm over the defect, conserving tissue and avoiding a full hyperopic shift.
Mask technology lets us block and protect areas that should NOT be treated, while treating only the aberrated zone. Combined with Smart Pulse Technology, the cornea heals more smoothly, giving better contrast and less haze. This is key for correcting the higher order aberrations that cause halos after Multifocal IOLs.
Corneal topography and tomography (Pentacam), high-resolution aberrometry (OPD Scan 3), day and night pupillometry, tear film analysis, and an IOL position check for pseudophakic eyes (eyes with a lens implant).
We differentiate between refractive error, higher order aberrations (coma, spherical aberration) and neuro-adaptation issues. Not everyone needs a laser touch-up. Sometimes a lens exchange or medical therapy is the better option.
Residual power after SMILE / SILK / Contoura: Aberration-free or Corneal Wavefront guided enhancement with Mask.
Quality issues after Multifocal IOL: Corneal Wavefront or Ocular Wavefront treatment to reduce corneal aberrations that amplify IOL halos, with strict tissue conservation.
Decentered ablations: Topography-guided recentration using TKET + Mask.
All treatments are performed as no-touch, flapless surface procedures to avoid further flap or lenticule complications.
Lenticule procedures are great, but they have limited retreatment options on the same platform. The SCHWIND AMARIS 1050RS with TKET / TREK / Mask gives us an independent, topography-driven way to regularize the cornea without needing to recut.
Persistent glare or halos at night
Double vision or ghosting after Multifocal IOL
Blurred or fluctuating vision months after SMILE Pro / SILK / Contoura / InnovEyes
Being told that “nothing more can be done”
If any of these sound familiar, get a second opinion from Dr. Tejas Shah and the team at Amdavad Eye Laser Hospital, Ahmedabad. Bring your old surgery records, topography maps and refraction details, then book through our e-appointment page or call +91 96248 96248.
Can SMILE or SILK be retreated? Lenticule procedures have limited retreatment options on the same platform. A flapless surface enhancement, guided by topography or wavefront, is one way to fine-tune the cornea without recutting.
What causes glare and halos after a multifocal IOL? Common causes include residual astigmatism, higher order aberrations and lens decentration. A detailed workup shows whether the cause lies in the cornea, the lens position or neuro-adaptation.
Is a laser touch-up always the answer? No. After ray tracing and aberration analysis, some patients are better served by a lens exchange or medical therapy.
What should I bring to my consultation? Your old surgery records, topography maps and refraction details.
